Great Speakers

Infinity Kappa 693 9i speaker Electronics

Infinity Kappa 693 9i speaker Electronics

I was using JBL GTO 937 in the rear parcel tray of my Suzuki Swift for the last 3.5 years and I have been thinking of upgrading it. My first choice was Polk MM691 and I auditioned it at one of the retailers. I did love the fact that it can get loud and clean, but I was not sure if it had the bass response I was looking for. It had very good mids , but not the deep and tight bass i wanted even tho the spec says an Overall Frequency Response 30-25kHz.
Anyways my search continued and I zeroed in on Infinity Kappa 693.9i, the frequency response didn't look any better 35 - 30k Hz , especially the bass end and the looks were also nothing to talk about. Anyways I got a quote lower than the Polk and I went for it, since Infinity is not any lesser brand.

Coupled with Pioneer GM-6400F amps, this not so good looking speakers gave me amazing response. The tweeters were harsh, but then I had these buttons to push them down by 3db to reduce the metallic tone it gave to the music. The mids were good and pleasing. The highlight to me is the bass, which is deep and tight, the music felt so much fuller with no fall off when it was sliding up the fret board. And the interesting part is that I downloaded test tones from [...]and the speakers responded to 30Hz test tone, below which it was not very audible. But I am surprised, when companies try to sell things claiming qualities which they don't really have, infinity have surpassed my expectation by actually putting out such low end performance than they have advertised on there site - [...]

I don't need a subwoofer as I am not the kinda guy who drive to show off that I got a great system inside my car, but I do enjoy music much more these days and look for opportunities to drive around. I just did a 1000KM run in 2 days, and I was the sole driver, for the reason that I can listen to music on my new Kappa 693.9i.

I listen to Ambient Electronic, Alternative Rock, Psyechedellic, Soft Rock... Metal and Hardrock sounded a little too harsh on these, maybe I need to find the right eq to tone down the metallic tweeters.

My setup

Pioneer 4050UB HU.
Pioneer GM-6400F 4 Way Amplifier 4x75W RMS at 2 Ohms.
JBL GTO 607c 6.5" 2 way Components with crossover, 2 Ohm impedance, 70W RMS .
Infinity Kappa 693.9i 3 Way Co-axials with crossover, 2 Ohm impedance, 110W RMS.

I know my amp is underpowered for the infinity kappa, but then its louder than I can stand at half the volume at which distortion kicks in.

Overall I am one happy owner!

UPDATE: These settings seem to work perfectly for CD Quality Audio

  1. Ok guys let me tell you about my story:

I installed theses speakers in the back along with infinity kappa 60.9CS in the front + a 4-channel amp, and I got them professionally installed which cost around 100$ for the installation. I also purchased a high quality amp kit just to make sure everything sound right. I was wrong or may be the guys don't know how to tune a sound system, the speakers didn't sound good. I re-tuned everything and pushed the db button to set it to -3. The sound has improved dramatically but I still wasn't convinced that this is the best out of the speakers. I made a research about how to tune an amplifier and took a look at the amp manual + the specs of the speakers and what is the frequency response for each, I set the high pass filter accordingly and also set the gain to mach the pre-out maximum output of the car stereo (pioneer avh-p3300) after all these tuning...BOY WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! this is the best sound I've ever had in my car and I feel like am having a 10" subwoofer which I don't. These speakers are the best and the sound quality is phenomenal..and the db now is set back to normal.
GET THESE SPEAKERS NOW...and if they didn't sound right then be sure it's something with the tuning. Hope this review helps in some way or another..

  2. I have always tried to use JBL speakers. A technician suggested the infinity Kappas. I could not be happier! The sound is amazing! that is the best choice!

  3. These speakers are truly great sounding speakers. I ordered mine about a week ago. The shipping was 3-15 days and they came in three (all the way from CA to PA). However this doesnt contribute at all to my 5 star rating because I'm rating the product, not Amazon.

I installed them three days ago. They are fairly heavy, with a massive magnet underneath (infinitys are known for this). They are very easy to set up once u get them in the speaker locations in your car. All you do is split the speaker wire, strip it, and put it in the + and - slots.

Now onto the actual sound of the speakers. I ordered mine hoping that i would not need any subs. Luckily, the speakers have a great sounding bass. The bass is extremely accurate, as mentioned in a few other reviews, but not a bad accurate. When i read those reviews i thought that this "accurate bass" was not a deep, car shaking bass, but it is. It sounds great. Also, whomever said in those reviews that the bass isn't great, I dont know what they were hearing. It sounds amazing. Great bass people isn't those stupid subs that shake the road and just sound ridiculous. The highs are also very good. I havent even installed my front door panel speakers and i would be fine with just my 6x9 infinitys. There is also a little button to lower the db by 3 if you want, but i just left it without the -3 db.

In conclusion, get these speakers. For the money, they are great. Im sure there are better ones out there, but if you want better, plan on spending over 250 for a set.

Side note; I have heard they sound even better with an amp. You may want to consider this. (Im too cheap to justify one haha)

  6. Great replacement speaker. They sound much better than the stock units. Great low bass for a 6x9.

  7. This is one of the best 6x9 pairs you can buy for under 200 dollars. Efficiency, power, clarity, balance, quality, all of these descriptors come to mind when describing this product. This will be mys second par of this series of Kappa. Makes a world of difference when it comes to sound in your vehicle. I am installing this into my second vehicle which is a convertible. So having a strong sound system is imperative. I would also recommend buying a four channel amp for these if you are looking to get the full advantage of these speakers. I have the kappa Five amp, 4 channel 52w rms and a 300w mono block sub amp built in. I run the exact same set up in both cars. The only difference is that one has an 8 inch sub, and one has a 10 inch sub. I also am running Kappa perfect components which sound fan freakin tastic. Bottom line.. buy these or any other Kappa/Kappa Perfect Series and you are on the money for some really good sound. I really like the connection terminals that come with all kappa series speakers. It just feels so solid using the clamp down connections on these speakers. NO soldering, no crimping, no electrical tap, just a good solid connection. If you can help it make shore you buy the Kappa subs as well viewing the fact that they have the same kind of set up. I have reference series subs and they while good, you get your regular shoddy connection terminals that you have to fuss over to get a good connection. I have always been a fan of Infinity, but every time I buy another product I start lovin them more.
