Great for my 99 Toyota Solara

JVC Mobile Company KD R730BT Stereo

JVC Mobile Company KD R730BT Stereo

I recently purchased this JVC Bluetooth Stereo and must say I love it! It was easy to install, has great sound, reception is very good, and changing colors is nice if your into that sort of thing. I'd challenge anyone to find a better buy at this price ($118), on a feature laden stereo like this. One thing that makes this stereo different than most at this time is the FRONT and REAR USB's. While one must hold the bluetooth adapter if your using that feature, the ability to route the included cable from the rear of the unit to whatever cubby you like for your device is great. While I have found I use my Iphone via the bluetooth, which works and sounds excellent, I like the option of conncting either 2 devices via bluetooth or via cord. Of course you also have the front standard input as well. The presest and customizable EQ with BASS BOOST and DYNAMIC setting is great. The only criticism I can find is that the buttons on the right side of the unit are pretty small, so if you have larger hands and want to navigate through radio station or songs, it can be difficult while driving. The bluetooth phone feature works very well and the display is cool in that it displays song titles, radio stations, callers names, etc. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and it paired well with Pioneer 6.5" TS-G1644R, which I will review seperately. Highly recommended!!!

  2. I purchased this radio to add bluetooth to my 02 Honda accord EX V6. The installation was simple and easy enough for a first time installer.

The sound quality is truly amazing with my stock speakers (2 5.25", 2 6x9, and 2, tweeters).

I did add a 10" sub and modest 500W amp at the same time but the system together is amazing.

The bluetooth streaming audio is really good (I prefer the USB Connection)and the bluetooth phone function works flawless. I haven't had any complaints from the people I talk to and I use it daily for business calls. I installed the mic on the steering column which works great.

My only issue is the iPhone syncs immediately but when I make my first call it stays on the iPhone speaker until I manually change it. I am sure this is a function of the iPhone and not the stereo.

Definitely recommend the stereo. You can not go wrong for the price and features.

  3. The deck works very well with my cell phone (Samsung Galaxy Nexus LTE).

The deck's external microphone can pick all my commands to the phone. Everyone I called can actually hear me. (versus just using the cell phones mic @ high speeds)

Google Music, Navigation, and Pandora worked phenomenally. I can now control the phone's playback feature through the deck.

Turn on the car > Deck looks for your synced phone > Connects > Starts Jamming to Tunes from your phone

There are a lot of color schemes to choose as well.

The faceplate is detachable as well. It is a must when you have an old Honda vehicle.

    I recommend this deck if:
    - You live in a bad neighborhood where a removable faceplate is appreciated
    - You use Google Navigation like crazy
    - You like Pandora, or Music in general
    - You like to talk in the car
    - You use voice recognition like crazy to navigate your self to a destination

If you are an iPhone user, you'll like this deck as well since you'll enjoy all the same features an Android phone offers with this deck.

  4. I do not usually write reviews, but could not resist this one. I chose the JVC KD-R730BT for its features, low cost, and the high reviews that I saw on Amazon. Unit arrived on time, installation was a breeze, and I agree with the high marks that are listed on the other reviews.

The radio is sensitive and the sound quality is much better than my factory radio (even with the same factory speakers), and the CD works fine. The blue tooth - Iphone interface was easy to pair (Iphone4) and the call quality through the radio sounds fantastic. I also bought the Sirius radio interface (KS-SRA100) and connected my Sirius Sportster (SCVDOC1). It was easy and the Sirius tunes though the JVC radio with no issues.

The rear USB connection is very nice, as now I don't have to have the USB memory sticking out of the front of my radio. I use the front USB for the bluetooth adapter, as it sticks out less than 1/2 inch from the faceplate...

This is an amazing set of features for just over $100, and the performance of the radio is great. I highly recommend it.

  5. This is a solidly built unit. It feels well made. It has lots of tricks!

    First - the installation

The installation took me about 1.5 hours total which included the removal of the previous am/fm/cd player. I installed this unit into a Ford E-150 van.

One problem - I didn't think ahead to make sure that I got a vehicle specific wiring harness or a wiring harness adaper , but in retrospect it would not have done me that much good. My van already had the original unit replaced so I was adapting to an adapter that was already there. All the wires were color coded and it was a simple matter of snipping and stripping wires and then splicing them back together with electrical tape and small wire nuts. Once this was finished the unit played perfectly.

I have a Samsung Galaxy note and I synced the phone with the blue tooth adapter supplied with the unit and it worked like a charm.

The unit does have 2 USB ports, but one is on the front of the unit and one is at the rear of the unit.

I had installed the Pandora app on my phone and when I started the app on my phone I was easlily able to have Pandora sync with the JVC unit - sweet!

I then then removed the SD card from my Galaxy note, inserted it into a Transcend SD to USB adapter and plugged it into the front of the unit - the card was quickly read and played flawlessly.

Curious about what the unit might also do , I attached an old Arcos 402 hard disk based music player/ camera/ camcorder to the unit - it located my music and commenced playing.

I then attached a standard USB hard drive. After a search it located the music files (the drive was 500 GB) and played them with a few bumps her (some of the songs produced a file error.

The hard drive files found resided on a FAT32 partition - I have no idea if the unit will read NT file system.

Needless to say , but - nearly any modern MP3 player play through this unit.

I haven't had a chance to use my phone with the unit, but whenever I do I will update this review.

As far as features and value I would rate the unit an easy 9 out of 10. The installation was fairly simple.

I am very pleased with the units and consider it to be a great value.

My van will no longer be home to hundreds of CD's!

I will likely listen to most of my music via the SD-USB adapter and use my Galaxy note when I want to listen to Pandora (unless I want to cache Pandora to the SD card)

I would recommend this unit to anyone looking to update their equipment.

Months after the original purchase I am still very pleased with the unit and it's performance.

  6. I got this radio about 3 weeks ago and installed it in my explorer.
Pros Loads of features. pro EQ, Bluetooth, Ipod support, good reception.
cons remote is too small it would be easy to lose.
Overall I don't think you could get more for your money. Everything works great and the bluetooth is clear and very easy to use. You won't go wrong with this JVC.

  7. This is my second JVC 730BT car stereo I bought. The first one I put it in my first car and I was so pleased by the product that I order another one for my second car.
I love the hands-free system, the fact that it charges my phone even if I listen to radio and that the navigation sound kicks in whenever there is something to say about the road.
I give up my Alpine stereo to have this one and I think I did a very good deal.

The only thing I don't like (but I can live with it) is the volume button because is slippery and you need to grab it a bit strong to actualy be able to turn it.

  8. I've been wanting to replace my stock tape/cd deck in my 99 Toyota Solara. I wanted something that had BT, USB and in AUX port. The AUX port will come in handy when I connect my GPS to the stereo (yet to test this out).

I am not that great with cars, but I'm pretty decent with electronics (mainly computers). I was surprised how easy this was to install. With the wiring and the dash kit, I was able to install it in a couple hours. Most of the time was spent in going over the instructions repeatedly, to make sure I didn't make any mistakes. After it was done, I was surprised it actually worked.

    CONS:
Bluetooth takes up one of the USB ports (I chose Rear port), so technically, you only have one available...
Microphone is not the greatest. I'm considering replacing the mic. Hands-free is a must these days.
Track info does not display when playing mp3s through bluetooth

    PRO:
USB Port is great for dumping files onto a flash drive and plugging-in - it reads through folders automatically
Phone Hands-free calling is great (even though mic isn't fabulous) - I have an android HTC EVO 3D - if BT is enabled, connects to the stereo immediately
    Color display is pretty cool
Streaming music via bluetooth is pretty nice

Even though there are some CONS, I still give it a 5-star rating. For the quality and price, this is totally worth it. I paid ~ 100$.

  9. I just bought this as my first ever aftermarket upgrade, and I'm loving it!

I like projects, so I decided to install it myself, and I'm so glad that I did. If you are on the fence about self-installation, here are a few tips (and I'm a 26-yr-old woman, so ladies, you can do this too!):

    Before You Begin
The hardest part for me about self-installation was making sure I had all of the right parts and tools. In addition to your new stereo, you will also need:

    1. A wiring harness specific to your car's model/year.
    2. A dash install kit specific to your car's model/year.
    3. A Phillip's head screwdriver.
    4. A socket wrench (most likely with an extension rod to reach back far enough in your dash) with a 3/8 inch hex head.
    5. Electrical tape.
    6. Wire stripper.
    7. Something to pry out your dash pieces (preferably a plastic pry tool, but I used a very small flathead screwdriver).
    8. A small wrench to disconnect your battery's negative terminal.

Taking Out the Old Stereo (the Hard Part)
    1. Disconnect the negative terminal on your car battery (just need a smallish wrench to do this). This prevents you from short-circuiting your stereo as you install.
    2. Pry out the faceplates around your center console (usually only one screw is necessary, located under one of your air control knobs).
    3. Unscrew the housing that is holding your current stereo to your dash (four hex nuts, which require a socket wrench).
    4. Pull out old radio housing.
    5. Pop out faceplate that holds your air vents around old radio housing.
    6. Disconnect wiring harness from old radio.

    Installation of the New Stereo (the Easy Part);
    1. Splice wires from new stereo to new wiring harness (you'll need one that is specific to your car model/year). Cover spliced wires with electrical tape or solder together.
    2. Feed microphone through dash space to underneath the steering wheel housing (much easier than it sounds--there is a microphone-sized space running all around your steering wheel housing that will let you fish it out so that the mic can be placed on top of the housing to pick up your voice).
    3. Attach your dash install kit pieces to your new stereo (this is also specific to your car's make/model/year, and is what allows your stereo to fit in seamlessly with your dash).
    4. Attach your new wiring harness to your car's wiring harness.
    5. Attach your car's antenna cable to the back of your new stereo.
    6. Slide in stereo to its spot in the dash.
    7. Tighten those 4 hex nuts back in place to hold the stereo housing (just cram all of the stereo wires back behind the stereo in the dash).
    8. Pop all those dash pieces back in place in reverse order (top to bottom).
    9. Reconnect your negative battery terminal.

There are several video tutorials on youtube that show this process in every detail--this stereo is really worth it, and after parts, you can save $50-75 in labor by doing it yourself.
