Works With The Kindle Fire

Kinivo ZX100 Portable Rechargeable Resonator

Kinivo ZX100 Portable Rechargeable Resonator

I like this speaker more than my iHome iHM60, which I really like. The Kinivo is tougher, does not slide around, includes a separate (bottom stored) cable for serial connecting of multiple speakers, and, most importantly, it has a much desired VOLUME CONTROL. The ON/OFF button is unusual, but it works fine. The volume control works beautifully and easily, and the speaker is plenty powerful. Not being an educated audiophile, I cannot tell much difference in sound between the popular I-Home and the Kinivo, though there are tonal differences, but they are not important to me. I now prefer traveling with the Kinivo for all it's extra features, and I love it's cost, which was $8 less than the I-Home on Amazon.

Strangely, I bought three of these speakers just eleven days ago from Amazon, and now it's listed as "Currently Unavailable." And when I look it up, it comes up as "Cyber Snipa CSAS001 Sonar" at TWICE the price! Not good news.

  1. I loved it at first. Good sound, good volume, etc. I purchased it in May and by the first week of November, the volume increase button no longer works so it's stuck on one volume now. I use it for my place of business and the volume is stuck on way too low of a volume now. I'm pretty irritated about it because I likely have no recourse now. I don't have the packaging anymore. So, beware. If you buy one, it may not last. I read all the reviews before I bought one, hoping for the best.

(UPDATE 1/15/13) The company contacted me after I left my review and sent me a new one free of charge. I'm just being really careful with the volume buttons. I'm using my computer's volume control to turn them up and down. But it was very nice of the company to replace it.

Kinivo ZX100 Mini Portable Speaker with Rechargeable Battery

Pros: compact, ~8 hours listening time, looks good, loud, simple to use

Cons: does not automatically shut off, charging cable

    Ownership: 2 months

When I say this thing is loud, I mean it is loud enough at a picnic with the wife or for singing along while showering. Don't plan on entertaining a party with this. Regarding the charging cable, the provided cable plugs into your computer via USB so its a minor inconvenience. Luckily it charges via USB to "USB Mini-B" so you can interchange your charger adapters from your cell phones/cameras easy enough. Plug it into the wall for a faster charge! The audio cable is short, but that has its ups and downs.
I will buy more for Christmas gifts.

  3. I received these and they work great. The only problem is that the directions don't tell you to hold down the "power on " button until the light comes on. After you figure that out they work great and have great sound unlike the other set this company sell. Stick with this speaker, don't buy the SP100 mini twin speakers. Don't do like me and think twin is better than single!! The doubles did not work at all, but this speaker is a great little carry around speaker.

  4. I purchased the Kinivo ZX100 Mini Portable Speaker for use with my Kindle Fire, the latter which I find lacking a little when playing music or watching a movie, especially with any extraneous noise in the room. This little speaker adds a great deal to the sound quality of my music and movie experience. It produces a deeper bass than the Kindle Fire's built-in speakers, and fills the immediate area with a richer sound. I wasn't expecting a 'home stereo,' so I was not disappointed with what the Kinivo ZX100 Mini Portable Speaker can actually do. It supplements my Kindle Fire, is small, light and portable, and I like it a lot.

The Kinivo ZX100 is a pop-up design speaker, which makes the unit even smaller for storage and traveling. Just twist the top and pop it up for use. The red band along the bottom edge contains all the buttons--Power On/Off, Volume Up, and Volume Down. I really like that the Kinivo ZX100 has its own volume controls and so you don't have to find your device's volume slider when you want to change it. Just press the red bar to increase or decrease (make sure you press the red bar below the word 'Volume +' or 'Volume -' not the word itself!). There's also a blue LED to show power is on, which glows red while charging the battery. (Note: Press and hold the red bar below the Power icon to turn the speaker on or off.)

The Kinivo ZX100 has a built-in cable that you plug into your device. It's just 5" in length, from the base of the unit to the tip of the 3.5mm jack. This puts the Kinivo ZX100 Mini Portable Speaker directly at my Kindle Fire's right edge (when in horizontal mode) without much room to move it. However, this is not a problem for me, and if you do need a longer cable to place the speaker further away, you can always use the included charging cable (see next paragraph), or purchase an extension cable. When not in use, this little non-detachable cable tucks away into a groove in the bottom of the Kinivo ZX100, out of the way but always accessible.

Unlike some portable mini speakers, the Kinivo ZX100 features a rechargeable battery. The charging cable is about 27.5" in length from tip to tip. One end is a standard USB plug, the other is the mini-USB plug that goes into the Kinivo ZX100. The unit only charges via USB. There is also a piggyback 3.5mm plug for playback while charging, or playback when you want to place the speaker further away from your device (as mentioned above). This cable has an attached Velcro cable tie, so when not in use you can keep it rolled up neatly and tucked into the included cloth, drawstring storage/traveling pouch.

Overall the Kinivo ZX100 is a neat little package with a big sound. It's one of the best accessories I have purchased for my Kindle Fire, really enhancing the playback of my movies and music. I love it!

The Kinivo ZX 100 is an ultra-portable speaker that provides surprising sound from a small package. The speaker plays in mono (it only has one driver), but it is perfect for supplying music into small space - it is very suitable for your desk or other small areas. However, what I like about the ZX 100 is that it is absolutely perfect for travel - it will fit into the side-pocket of your backpack or even into the pocket of your jeans.

One thing to consider is if you need a bluetooth option - the BTX 110 is essentially the same speaker but it offers bluetooth connectivity and doubles as a speakerphone.

    A few other positives-

    - Much better sound than I expected - While it does not offer too much bass it does have a clear frequency response across the range.

    - Great portability

    - Easy to use

    - Rechargeable - depending on the volume you can get several hours of play time

    - it definitely sounds better the speakers on the iPod or iPad

    Areas for improvement

    - I am not a fan of the blue light that can not be disabled

    - I would prefer if the cord was retractable and a bit longer

Final Verdict - A nice speaker and at a nice value - Definitely recommended for anyone that needs a highly portable speaker for your iPod or iPad.

Please Note - I received this product for reviewing purposes
