Total System Upgrade, less than $200

CH4220 Chaos Series 4 Inch Speakers

CH4220 Chaos Series 4 Inch Speakers

i bought these speakers to replace the ones in my Durabrand radio with really bad cheap speakers. the only thing i had to change was i had to modify the speaker box to fit the speakers but that cause it had a weight to make you think the stock speakers are better than they really are. other than that they are excellent speakers for $12.00 they come with the mounting screws and clips and sweet looking cover plates. the wire that comes with them is less that 22ga wire so if i where you i would buy some good speaker wire but the wire that came with them is alright if you don't want to buy speaker wire. all in all there really good for $12.00. the only other thing is the connections on the speaker are different sizes for positive and negative the + is the big one and the - is the small one the included wire has slide on connectors with un shrunk heat shrink tube.again they're really good speakers for the price definite buy!

  7. I recently decided to upgrade the sound system in my 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis. The system I replaced was the JBL premium system from the factory. The front left speaker was dead, and the other three speakers sounded dull and lifeless. The speakers were past their prime, but I knew that simply replacing the speakers wouldn't cut it, and I was right. I tested everything as I went.

The receiver was a Sony CDX-GT40UW
The front speakers were Boss CH5730 Chaos 5x7 3-way speakers
The rear speakers were Xpress XP699 6x9 3-way speakers

I started out by replacing the back speakers. Sound was significantly better in the back seat after the replacement, and marginally better in the front seat. Bass seemed less dull; mid-range and high frequency was where I noticed the most change.

Next I replaced the front speakers. I never checked the back seat after replacement, but there was a night-and-day difference in the front seat sound quality after replacing the front speakers. All frequency ranges were magnificent when compared to the old system -- even before my front left speaker had died.

Finally I replaced the receiver, and it was almost like going from an old transistor AM radio to surround sound. Having a seven-band equalizer, with several presets, is a colossal improvement over the old three-band equalizer, where you can only set bass and treble with a slider.

I generally listen to hard rock (Black Sabbath, Alice in Chains, Metallica and so forth), and it's a joy to listen to music on this new system. Even at max volume, the system seems pretty solid, with only a minor amount of distortion. But then again, I'm a casual listener, not a hard-core audiophile. If you're looking to upgrade an old, or low-end system on a budget, consider installing what I purchased. The whole set-up cost me less than $200, including adapter kits and so forth.

  8. Replaced the stock speakers in one of my cars with these cheap replacements.

They sound good and are definately worth the price.

Come with about 10 ft of speaker wire per speaker with the connectors attached and all the neccesary mounting screws.

Also, from the research I've done, each speaker appears to be 150 RMS watts and 300 peak.
